Health and Graceful Motion – Let Your Body Flow

A.K.A. UNDERSTAND YOUR BODY

(How to prepare your body for dance, how to make your body an advantage and not a hindrance when dancing;
how not to “break” yourself – a reference to the basics of West Coast Swing)

Next training course:

First camp in English will be in 2024 probably
Dedicated for: West Coast Swing dancers

You’re sincerely welcome to join the week-long group training courses, during which you’ll get as full picture as possible of what contributes to:

  • our wellbeing
  • healthy activity / good movement patterns – and how to take care of your body so it does not give out
  • quality of movement – or how to teach your body to move effectively and gracefully
  • we’ll also touch upon the basics of anatomy

In addition, you’ll get to know how:

  • to train
  • to plan your training
  • to steer clear of injuries as much as possible and how to allow your body to mend on its own (if you pick up an injury after all)
  • our brain and nervous system influence our movement and we’ll talk about neurotraining
  • diet fits into all this
  • breath fits into all this
  • and where to seek knowledge about all of the above
Marcin & Skeleton

During these 7 days, you’ll find the answer to the mind-boggling question many of us have – namely, what can we do to be able to keep experiencing the joy of physical activity, health, freedom and quality in dance throughout your whole life?

Conditions for participation: an open mind and at least a year of experience in dancing WCS!

Everything we’ll be talking about and training will be based on the scientific study of body and movement (biomechanics, neurology, anatomy, physiology), but some things aren’t that easy to understand the first time you try, so it’s important that you approach everything with an open mind and a positive attitude.

On the agenda:

  • lectures
  • a lot of practice
  • Q&A
  • class titled How to relate all of this to WCS
  • evening practice

We’re starting with a meeting and a supper on Friday. During the meeting, we’ll go over the week’s schedule in detail. And of course we’ll also do a quick WCS practice, but not too long, so we’re all well-rested the next day.

We’re finishing the next Friday with breakfast and a wrap up of the whole week (or not, if you’re staying for Winter Poronin).

Marcin during classes

  • half an hour of individual consultation with me to be used within the next 6 months after the training course (you can come as a pair and have the whole hour!)
  • exercise mat + 4 meters of TheraBand + a yoga block – all of which you’re keeping after the course
  • a t-shirt

Cost: ——— (max. 30 participants)

NOTE! We’re finishing on a Friday, and immediately after, we’re starting Poronin for beginners and intermediates, so you can join the two courses or stay just for the events for 2 nights with half-board – 340 PLN

A few words from me:

(I also recommend to check out my blog posts on this page before the training course – it’ll be easier for you to understand why we’re doing what we’re doing)

Knowledge about how the given move should look like and how it should be made is easily available: events, classes, workshops, e-learnings, YouTube tutorials…

But the question of WHAT to do to be able to make the particular move the way you want, with the same quality, intent, expression or dynamics, is much harder, because it leads to the overarching question: WHY can’t I make this move now and what can I do to be able to make it at some point? Is it the issue of tissue restriction, and if yes, then why (but here the answer is quite simple)? Or is it because our nervous system has certain pre-existing patterns, or how well we feel our body? Or how other systems in our body affect our movement (we’ll discuss this too)?

Nobody is able to get to know our body in the same way as we can ourselves – because nobody is going to FEEL what we feel. That’s why we’ll tackle the issue of body awareness and feeling, and provide you with the right knowledge to become much more aware with time and be able to understand ourselves what’s happening with our bodies with each given moment.

When we start dancing, our body can be too tense or too loose, partially adapted to a wrong posture, and as a consequence, won’t be able to make the most effective move. Poor proprioception, coordination, and a weak connection with our own body limits us to the larger moves. The subtle moves are blocked, since your muscles are only getting the strong signals. Furthermore, if you’re having emotional difficulties with something or their general life and health hygiene is unbalanced, as a result our body may not be behaving the way we want it to.

The last couple of years I’ve spent searching for the answer to the question: what can be done to ensure that anyone can improve their movement quality? I want to help you prime your body to dance feasibly better and obtain better dance quality. I want to show you the way anyone can enjoy life and fitness as long as possible and without injuries.

In the course of recent years, the science of the body has developed rapidly and brought a lot of interesting answers. However, we still have to approach everything with humility, because there still remain many mysteries in terms of how our bodies function.

Nonetheless, everything I want to share with you is supported with science, training methods established by individuals considered as authorities in the world of sport and rehabilitation, as well as my own 25 years of dancing experience (as a dancer, judge, teacher and a trainer).

See you on the training course! 🙂
